oh dear. i know i’m runnin the risk of coming across as one of those awful “i’m not a racist, but….” people who ring into radio phone-ins and then, by their comments, reveal themselves to be politically slightly to the right of genghis kahn. but does anyone else think that the wave of moral outrage currently sweeping the nation over the ‘racist abuse’ from the crowd at last night’s england v. spain friendly, is just ever so slightly over the top?
i had the match on radio five last night and that fat, pompous twat alan green spent more time being ‘outraged’ and ‘disgraced’ by a couple of idiots making ‘monkey noises’ in the crowd than he did commenting on the feckin’ game!
then of course afterwards and on into this morning we had the fallout, with radio PC… oops!… i mean radio five devoting significant swathes of their news bulletins and phone-ins to debating; whether the spanish are a nation of facists. whether the england team should have picked up their ball and walked off the pitch. and even whether spain shouldnae be allowed to hold the olympic games in 2016 because of this. in fact for most of the day, the fact that some england footballers had been heckled by some football supporters was the number two headline of radio PC’s news broadcasts - pushing a couple of murders and, of course, the latest from iraq down into the “and in other news…” slot.
funnily enough, i believe new york is also in the running for the 2016 olympics. yet bizarrely, there didnae appear to be much of a clamour for their bid to be rejected because of the recent behaviour of certain of their citizens.
presumably making rude noises at millionaires is a much more heinous crime than dropping bombs on children and torturing prisoners of war?
for fuck’s sake people - grow up!
