bilge unleashed on an unsuspecting world!

the world at large [and especially that small part of it which concerns itself with carrots] was agog today at the news that madra, the brains [and looks!] behind the hugely successful madra.net multimedia company had finally got his sorry arse round to putting his much-heralded “bilge” blog onto the fishin’ net. although readers were initially frightened by an opening sentence which ran to 53 words and two sets of brackets, madra reassured them that the style would settle down a bit – “once he got the hang of it”.

and thus spake madra

well, i cannae believe i finally got movable type up and running! i’d tried a few times to set it up locally on my laptop running mac OSX but it wasnae having any of it.

stobsaí working on the compi had looked at a few other alternatives such as xoops, pmachine and mambo but although they all had their good and bad points [shudders at the memory of wrestling with mambo's fuckwitted configuration and lack of documentation], it seemed that every blog i came across on the web which i liked the look of had been done in moveable type. so on a wild optimistic flight of fancy, i threw a default installation up on my webserver and [after a few configuration tweaks] – blow me down with a gnat’s chuff! – if the bastard didnae run!

i’m presuming it [ie. the reason i couldn't get MT to run locally] had something to do with the fact that i think it’s heavily perl dependent and i’m not sure perl was set-up properly on the laptop’s built-in mac OSX webserver.

now, i’m well prepared to roll my sleeves up and get ‘down and dirty’ [oo er!] with some semi-comprehensible programming language like PHP or actionscript, but after some nasty experiences as a spotty youngster trying to configure supposedly ‘simple’ perl CGI scripts, i prefer to leave that particular nerd-language to the guys with the milk-bottle-bottom glasses. hence the reason i’ve been eyeing movable type enviously from the sidelines for so long, while avoiding the [imagined] agonies that would come from trying to kick the bastard into play. [that was a kind of confused metaphor, but i quite liked it!]

anyway, surprise! surprise! – here i am up and running after a minimum of hassle. i must be a perl god after all! now begins the fun of customising the template files, so this wee baby starts to look slightly less ‘default’ and slighty more like the random drivellings of a sociopathic nobody.

world – are you ready to ‘sook my stupid brain‘ ?!!!
